Let's face it, we all want to feel happy and fulfilled. But most of us don't feel particularly happy with our lot in life.

In the meantime, our relationships with the ones we love may suffer. Oddly enough, the solution to bringing more happiness into our lives may begin with how we deal with our own perception of ourselves.

You need to learn to develop a positive mental attitude. Stop talking to yourself internally in a negative fashion. Come to accept that your thoughts really do determine what you'll become.

You can start out with the very best of intentions and be determined that you've got what it takes to achieve your goals but life has this nasty habit of getting in the way. It's sadly all too easy to let negative thoughts deflect you from your path paved with good intentions.

Your mind has no doubt been the recipient of much more negative self-talk than positive over the years and this alone is the major reason why presently your much more likely to fail than succeed.

To change the outcome of our situation we must "reprogram" our minds at the subconscious level with thoughts of a positive nature. Then when distractions and negative input comes along from other people, you have to learn to immediately discard them.

Simply let the "garbage in" and then "throw the garbage back out" of your mind. This will let you focus on the positive thoughts that you have placed in your subconscious mind. The result is a clearer perspective of your opportunities for success and the attainment of your goals. The trick here is to keep feeding your mind positive thoughts.

Here are 5 techniques you can use to develop a positive mental attitude:

1. Start to use visualization as part of your daily life. Learn to see in your minds eye positive outcomes of all that you are trying to achieve. If you struggle with this at first, persevere because it really is a powerful technique.

2. Repetition is the key to success with visualization. Develop a routine of doing it several times a day. Your subconscious is uncritical so the key is to present it with thoughts that you've already achieved what you're trying to achieve. Then it will do all in its considerable power to to bring to your external reality what you've visualized internally.

3. Write down your goals. This will make them more solid for you and give you something to use to reinforce them when you need to remind yourself of what they are. Make it a habit to read them over immediately before going to sleep to give your subconscious something to work on during the night.

4. Your subconscious mind can only react to the thoughts that you give it. To bring yourself success, you have to keep feeding your subconscious mind with positive instructions about what you want it to do for you. This technique will put your success on autopilot!

5. Build your happiness by sharing your successes with others. It is very true that when you give something positive to others that your own positive self esteem grows. By thinking positive and sharing those positive thoughts and feelings your life will grow stronger in that direction.

Develop the belief with every fibre of your being that you are the master of your own destiny. If your life path is not heading in the direction you want it to just change it - yes it really is as simple as that in essence.

Try to see the positive in every life situation. Happiness really is a state of mind and now that you know it is simply your choice to be happy or sad - which are you going to choose? You genuinely do have the power to control your thoughts - and your thoughts control your destiny. Promise yourself that today really is the beginning of the rest of your life. Live it positively.
